Services & Treatment Questions
-
At A Wholistic You, therapeutic massage sessions target chronic tension, stiffness, and stress-related pain using a mix of gentle and targeted techniques, a good fit if you sit at a desk all day or deal with recurring tightness.
Our therapist uses a variety of modalities including cupping, magnesium support, and hot towels and can adjust the pressure of your service to suit your body's needs.
Manual lymphatic drainage is a different approach entirely that uses much lighter pressure, rhythmic movement, and focuses on fluid drainage rather than muscle work. If you're not sure which one you need, just ask and we'll help you figure it out.
-
Yes, we do. Sessions are tailored to each stage, from easing pregnancy discomfort to supporting your body's recovery after birth.
Always make sure you have clearance from your doctor before booking a massage session.
-
You can wear whatever you're most comfortable in. During your session, you’ll undress to your own comfort level and be draped throughout your session.
Your therapist will only undrape the specific area being worked on and will check in periodically to make sure that you’re comfortable.
-
If at any point, the pressure is too much or not enough, just let your therapist know. Adjustments are easy and expected, and there's no wrong time to ask.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage & Post-Surgical Care Questions
-
Yes, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is safe for most post-op patients, and it's much gentler than many people expect. In fact, many cosmetic surgeons often recommend MLD to aid in faster recovery times and to reduce potential scarring.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage therapy uses light, rhythmic strokes, nothing like deep tissue work, and is designed to support your body's own fluid drainage after a procedure.
At A Wholistic You, our licensed massage therapist is specifically certified in the Vodder Technique MLD, designed to assist post-op patients and clients with health support and detoxification for post-surgical edema, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic pain reduction and more.
We require that you always get clearance from your surgeon before starting any bodywork after surgery, and that you bring that clearance with you to your first session.
-
Once you've gotten clearance from your surgeon or primary care doctor, your first session start date will depend on your procedure and what your surgeon recommends. For post-op clients, there's no single timeline that fits everyone.
Once you have your surgeon's go-ahead, feel free to book your first session following their guidance. If you need additional help, feel free to reach out to us at A Wholistic You via email or phone and we'll find an appointment time that works for you.
If you are a client that is dealing with chronic pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia or puffiness, you won't usually require any additional approval from your physician. If you're in doubt, talk to your doctor first, about what type of session may work best for you, and then feel free to schedule with us.
-
Prior to each first session, you'll need to complete your intake paperwork. That information is securely stored and used to help our therapist prepare for your session. At your first session, your therapist will spend about 10 - 15 mins going over anything on your paperwork that stood out to them and give you the opportunity to provide any additional context.
There'll be a mix of questions about your procedure, how your recovery is going, and what you're hoping sessions will support. We also like to get information about your lifestyle whether you spend more time sitting or on your feet. Think of it like the diagnostic that an automotive specialist might run on your car, or a consultation that your stylist might do before a new haircut. Don't worry it's not an exam, so you'll also have the chance to ask your own questions if anything is unclear or confusing.
From there, you'll receive instructions on how to prepare for your table session. Each session is a full 60 or 90 mins that begins when your therapist re-enters the room, so you don't need to feel rushed or anxious about cutting into your time.
